Organising With ADHD: Why Traditional Tidying Fails and What Helps

If you have tried every tidying method going and your home still slides back into chaos, the problem is not you. Many traditional systems rely on remembering, planning and routine maintenance, which are exactly the things that feel hardest when your brain works differently.

Make it easy, not perfect

The best system is the one that takes the fewest steps. Lidless baskets beat lidded boxes. Hooks beat hangers. A drop zone by the front door beats a drawer upstairs.

Keep things visible

If you cannot see it, it may as well not exist. Open shelves, clear containers and labels help you find things and remember you own them.

Store things where you use them

Chargers by the sofa. Scissors in every room that needs them. Duplicates are not a failure; they are a smart shortcut.

Small resets, not big clear-outs

A five-minute reset with a timer and music is far more achievable than a whole Saturday blitz.

Let go of the guilt

Organising is a skill, not a personality trait. You can build a home that supports you.

How I help

I listen to how you actually live and design simple, forgiving systems around that, never around how a home "should" look. You can read more in my post on executive function at home.
