SPACE PLANNING IN HERTFORDSHIRE
Beautiful homes can still be frustrating to live in when the layout and storage do not suit your family. I’m Helen, founder of Sort & Order, offering practical home space planning across Hertfordshire and nearby Buckinghamshire from my base in Tring.
Together we look at room layouts, how you move through your home, family routines and storage zones, before you spend money on furniture, cabinetry or renovation plans. From kitchens and wardrobes to utility rooms and shared family spaces, we plan around the belongings you own and the way you live.
If you would prefer a smaller starting point, a virtual Power Hour can help you work through layout and decluttering questions yourself. We can also discuss one priority area first and making better use of storage you already own. A free 15-minute call helps us work out which support suits your needs and budget.

The support I offer
I look at your belongings, routines and pressure points before helping you plan storage and room layouts that make sense:

Review existing cupboards, wardrobes and storage
-
Look at what needs to live in each room
-
Advise on shelves, drawers, hanging space and zones
-
Help you avoid wasted or awkward storage
-

-
Plan storage before a renovation or redesign
-
Suggest practical products, furniture or systems
-
Help you understand what should be kept, moved, reduced or rehomed
How it changes the way you feel
Good spatial planning removes the daily irritation from your home. You stop fighting with cupboards, losing things, stuffing items wherever they fit and wondering why a beautiful room still feels hard to live in.
This service gives you clarity before big decisions are made. It helps you spend money wisely and stops you building storage that looks good but does not actually support your life.

How it works...
1
Simple chat...
Once you contact me by email or WhatsApp, I’ll arrange a free 15-minute consultation. I’ll usually ask for a few photos or short videos first, or if you’re in need of a larger project, I may need a site visit to project plan (chargeable).
We’ll talk through your space, what you need help with, likely timings, how many organisers may be needed and the cost. There’s no pressure, just a chance to see if Sort & Order is the right fit.
2
Project booked...
Once we’ve agreed the plan, I’ll send over storage links for you to order, or I can source and bring storage with me at my hourly rate.
We’ll arrange a date and time that works for us both, and I’ll also suggest looking into local charity or recycling collections if we think they’ll be needed.
By this point, you’ll know what’s happening, and what to expect before I arrive.
3
On the day...
We’ll have a quick tour, agree the main priorities and make sure the session is focused on what will help you most.
You can work alongside me, or leave me to crack on. You can WFH and pop in & out too.
At the end, I’ll walk you through the new systems, make any small tweaks and leave everything ready for you to use, with charity, rubbish and recycling sorted as agreed.
Some of the biggest organising mistakes happen before the kitchen or cupboards have even been fitted.

Frequently asked questions
When should I book space planning support?
Ideally before you order wardrobes, cupboards, utility storage or renovation fittings. It is much easier to plan properly before anything is built.
Do you work with interior designers or carpenters?
Yes. I can work alongside designers, carpenters, architects or builders to make sure the storage is practical for the way your family lives.
How is spatial planning different from interior design?
They overlap, but they’re not the same. Interior design is mainly about how a room looks and feels. Spatial planning is about how it works day to day — the layout, flow, storage and routines that make life run more smoothly. The best homes often need a bit of both.
Can you help me avoid buying the wrong storage?
Yes. I can look at what you own, how often you use it and where it needs to live before you spend money on storage that may not solve the problem. We sort first, measure the available space and choose products that suit your routines. For ideas, browse the Sort & Order Amazon shop for my favourite storage and organising products.
Can you help with renovation planning?
Yes. I can help you think through storage, flow and everyday routines before or during a renovation, so the finished space works harder for your family.
Can I get home space planning advice in Hertfordshire?
Yes. Sort & Order offers practical home space planning across Hertfordshire and nearby Buckinghamshire. I’m Helen, a professional home organiser based in Tring, helping families plan room layouts, storage and clear zones around their belongings and everyday routines. This includes wardrobes, kitchens, utility rooms, shared family spaces and storage planning before a renovation. I can work alongside your interior designer, architect or carpenter. Structural changes and architectural drawings need the appropriate qualified professional.
Is there a more affordable way to get decluttering and space planning help in Hertfordshire?
Yes. If you would like professional advice and are happy to do the hands-on sorting yourself, my virtual Power Hour can help you decide where to start, think through room layouts and plan storage and family organisation systems. For in-home support, we can discuss focusing on one priority room or area first. Start with a free 15-minute call so I can understand what you need and explain the options and costs. You can also browse the Sort & Order shop for my favourite storage products, although it is best to sort and measure before buying.
“Helen is incredible. I struggle to release control so when we moved house I thought we’d manage all the boxes and sorting over time. However, it was a real struggle with my husband working full time and trying to prioritise the children. Helen was such a huge help. She came in for 2 days and totally organised one of the bedrooms ready for guests, the utility room, living room and finished the kitchen for me. Everything was in its place and labelled so I found it easy to keep track. She’s a lady I didn’t realise I needed and would highly recommend- preferably before the house move so it’s not such a stress! Thanks Helen x"
