Start with what makes daily life harder
You do not need to begin with the most emotional belongings. Start with the practical things that are making mornings, meals, laundry or paperwork harder than they need to be.
Separate practical decluttering from emotional decisions
Expired toiletries, duplicate kitchen equipment and outgrown clothes use a different kind of energy from photographs, letters or belongings connected to somebody you have lost. They do not need to be tackled in the same session.
Give uncertain items a temporary category
You are allowed to decide 'not yet'. A clearly contained review box can be useful when a permanent decision feels too much, as long as it has a sensible place and a future review point.
